2018-19 SWAC Flashback: Alabama State wins SWAC Women's XC Title

RESULTS

CLINTON, Miss. –
Alabama State University won the Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s cross country title at Choctaw Trails, besting Grambling 73-82 to regain the crown.

Led by Arion Span, who finished second overall, the Lady Hornets had three runners place in the top 15, and four in the top-16. Maryiah Archibald finished ninth overall, and Vinnelle Grant finished 13th overall as the Lady Hornets claimed their seventh title in the last eight years.
 
Prairie View A&M finished third (91), while Jackson State (98) was fourth. Defending champion Mississippi Valley State rounded out the top five with 109 points.

Southern (115), UAPB (166), Alcorn State (172) and Texas Southern (192) completed the field.
 
Scholasticah Kemei of Mississippi Valley State easily outdistanced the field to claim her second-straight Women’s Runner of the Year award. The junior won with a time of 17:18.8, more than a minute ahead of Span (18:33.05).

Alabama State’s Ritchie Beene was named SWAC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.
