BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference has recognized Mississippi Valley's Nykosi Simmons (Scarborough, Ontario) and Howard's Treschelle Gibson-Serrette (Toronto, Ontario/Sir John A. MacDonald) and Kyra Dickinson (Brampton, Ontario/Heartlake Secondary School) as the soccer student-athletes of the week for their exceptional performances in competition between October 13-19.
After scoring three goals and three assists over the weekend, the senior standout has been named offensive student-athlete of the week. Simmons also had a pair of 5-1 wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday and Grambling State on Sunday.
Gibson-Serrette defensive mindset earned her defensive-student athlete of the week honors. She anchored a Howard defense that pitched two shutouts over the weekend to move to 7-1 in the conference.
Dickinson is recognized as the goalkeeper of the week. She had a pair of shutouts over the weekend against Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. Dickinson also tallied six saves vs. Prairie View. She has recorded a total of four shutouts on the season so far.
